Two cargo ships collided in the North Sea

Several people are missing after two cargo ships collided in the North Sea. About this with reference to the German Maritime Emergency Management Agency (Havariekommando) writes RIA News.

The incident occurred around 5 am (6.00 Moscow time). Not far from the German island of Heligoland, the British-flagged cargo ship Verity collided with the Polesie ship, which sails under the flag of the Bahamas.

As a result of the collision, the Verity sank.

“One person was rescued from the water and is receiving medical attention. Several more people are currently considered missing. Searches are underway. Several ships are involved in this,” the department explained.

According to the department, the Polesie vessel, which has 22 people on board, remained afloat.

Earlier, two cargo ships collided in the Sea of ​​Marmara. The collision occurred near the island of Marmara between the 122-meter vessel Haje Halimen, which was transporting Ukrainian wheat, and the 169-meter Asomatos, which was transporting grain from the Russian port of Caucasus. As a result of the incident, no one was injured, the vessels suffered material damage – photographs from the scene showed that part of the Haje Halimen deck was destroyed.
