The second trial against the former governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Sergei Furgal, has begun in the Babushkinsky Court of Moscow. The Vedomosti newspaper reports this.
It is noted that during the court hearing the prosecutor asked for an extension not only of the preventive measures, but also of the seizure of Furgal’s property. The next meeting is scheduled for October 23.
According to the publication, the so-called economic case of the former governor of the Khabarovsk Territory is connected with the theft of funds from an electrometallurgical steel smelting enterprise – the Amurstal plant (Torex-Khabarovsk LLC).
Before this, lawyer Karapetyan reported that the investigation and familiarization with the materials of Furgal’s “economic” case had been completed. According to him, all defendants in this case are charged with committing 17 counts of crime.
On February 10, 2023, the court sentenced Furgal to 22 years in prison.
