The leader of a group calling itself the Azerbaijani mafia was put on the wanted list for attacks on passers-by in St. Petersburg. A source in law enforcement agencies reported this to Lenta.ru.
All detained members of the group said that their leader and organizer of the crimes was an 18-year-old resident of St. Petersburg, an ethnic Azerbaijani, but a citizen of Russia. It turned out that he is the son of a St. Petersburg entrepreneur – the owner and general director of several companies.
According to investigators, the defendants attacked random passersby and provoked fights, and also filmed their attacks and published them online. The city prosecutor’s office took special control of the investigation of these crimes.
Eight alleged members of the group have already been detained by police. For now, they all have the status of witnesses. However, a case was initiated under Part 2 of Article 213 (“Hooliganism”) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Under this article, participants can face up to seven years in prison.
