The cascade of the Road Pond has been reconstructed in Moscow’s Pokrovsky Park

Specialists continue to reconstruct the capital’s parks, said Pyotr Biryukov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing, Communal Services and Landscaping. In particular, he clarified, the cascade of the Road Pond was reconstructed in Pokrovsky Park.

The cascade includes four reservoirs (Maly, Upper, Middle and Lower ponds) and a multi-stage engineering water filtration system of the Teplyakovsky stream. The total area is 1.9 hectares.

The deputy mayor recalled that the last reconstruction of the pond was carried out in 2008-2009. By 2023, about 6.5 thousand cubic meters of silt deposits have accumulated at the bottom of reservoirs, causing water blooms during the warm period.

According to him, the coastal strip was not properly strengthened, so the coastal soils slid into the water area.

The reservoirs were cleared of bottom sediments. Then the workers formed a bed and a sandy bottom, strengthened the shore with crushed stone and pebbles while maintaining the slopes.

In places where water flows between ponds, specialists built several bioplates with a total area of almost 1.5 thousand square meters and planted about 32 thousand plants.

The reconstruction made it possible to transform the Road Pond into a modern recreation area, increase the efficiency of the water purification system and create favorable conditions for birds and fish.
