Russian lawyer detained for 43 million rubles scam

A 39-year-old lawyer from the Leningrad Region Bar Chamber became a defendant in a criminal case of attempted fraud in the amount of 43 million rubles. Lenta.ru was informed about this by the press service of the regional department of the Investigative Committee of Russia (ICR).

The lawyer was detained, the issue of choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention and bringing charges against him is being decided.

According to investigators, the suspect and his accomplice, a 33-year-old deputy general director of a private company, conspired to steal funds from the official distributor of several automobile brands. The criminal scheme was that the accomplices purchased a car with a guaranteed service life in 2021, rendered the rear right seat switch block unusable and presented the breakdown as a manufacturing defect.

On this basis, the lawyer filed a lawsuit against the car dealer and recovered 43 million rubles from him. However, this decision was overturned by the cassation court.

Investigators are checking the involvement of the lawyer and his accomplice in other similar crimes.
