Maine: at least twenty-two dead in several shootings
Multiple shootings in the city of Lewistonnorth of Portland, Maine, made at least twenty-two dead and between 50 and 60 injured, on the night of Wednesday October 25 to Thursday October 26. The suspect is “still at large” according to Androscoggin County police, who released photos of a white man armed with a semi-automatic rifle, wearing a brown top and dark blue pants.
According to the news channel CNNthe shootings took place in at least two different places : a bowling alley and a restaurant. In post on FacebookLewiston police released a photo of a white SUV, likely the one in which the man fled.
Local authorities have asked residents of Lewiston and surrounding towns to stay home. On X, a school district official indicated that public schools would remain closed this Thursday. Maine elected official Jared Golden said he was “horrified by the events in Lewiston”, in a press release echoed by AFP.
