The Minister of Territorial Unity approved contracts for the replacement of municipal equipment and infrastructure in 14 municipalities Lisbon AND Vale do Tagus damaged by floods of December 2022 and January 2023.
According to Ana Abrunhos, municipal infrastructure losses of about 97 million euros have been identified throughout the country, of which 48.7 million euros in the Lisbon area, corresponding to support of about 22 million euros.
Ana Abrunosa assured that the government intends to transfer 60% of this amount to the municipalities as soon as the contracts are published on the website. Diário da RepublicaWhereas some of these municipalities have already undertaken work and incurred costs to replace damaged equipment.
The minister emphasized that, in addition to municipal equipment and infrastructure, companies that had already been provided with support and advances also suffered losses.
In these cases, the amount did not reach €700,000 “as most companies, small businesses and services had insurance or received support from local authorities” and the cost of this support was deducted from the total damages.
Contracts for the support of flood-damaged infrastructure were approved in the municipalities of Almada and Seixal (Setubal district), Amadora, Arruda dos Vinhos, Benavente, Lisbon, Loures, Odivelas, Oeiras, Sintra and Vila Franca de Lisbon), and also Masao, Rio Mayor. and Vila Nova da Barquinha (Santarem district).
