Online travel company weloveholidays has revealed the most popular European castles among tourists, ranking them by the number of 5-star reviews they receive online and the number of social media posts in which they are mentioned.
According to a Publituris report, Edinburgh Castle ranks first with 30,752 5-star reviews on TripAdvisor and 698,000 Instagram posts, followed by Prague Castle and the Alhambra in Spain in second and third place, and Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany. considered the inspiration for Disney’s Cinderella Castle, ranked fourth. Rounding out the top five is Schönbrunn Palace in Austria, a Baroque masterpiece known for its opulent interiors and expansive gardens.
France boasts an impressive presence, with five entries in the top 30, with the Palace of Versailles being the country’s most popular (seventh place). Palacio da Pena is in eighth place with 157 thousand posts and 11,273 5-star reviews on TripAdvisor.
Nearby is England, which boasts four castles, led by Windsor Castle in sixth place. Known for its diverse architectural heritage, Germany has two other castles in addition to Neuschwanstein: 13th-century Heidelberg Castle and 16th-century Eltz Castle.
