In the statement Ports from Madeira indicates that throughout the three editions, Portugal has always been rewarded, since Madeira has distinguished itself twice since its victory in Lisbon in 2021.

In addition to Madeira, the list of nominees included Athens, Barcelona, Dubrovnik, Kotor, Lisbon, London, Monte Carlo, Nice, Oslo and Rome.

The regional Minister of Economy, who oversees Madeira’s ports, said he was proud of the award.

“This recognition is a source of great pride for us and for the region and reflects the success of the strategy implemented by the Regional Government of Madeira through APRAM, SA to restore the confidence of cruise passengers, stimulate demand and keep the region at the forefront of international cruise tourism preferences,” stated Rui Barreto.

The award is an “incentive and recognition” for the work done by agents in the sector, a government official said.

“This is also a reward for the people of Madrid, who follow with interest the presence of cruise tourism in our region, especially during periods such as the end of the year, when records of visits and stays are traditionally broken,” emphasized Rui Barreto.

The World Cruise Awards were presented for the first time in 2021. The event is considered the “sister” of the World Travel Awards, created in 1993 and presented as the Oscars of tourism, where Madeira has already won the award for the best island destination in Europe and has been voted the best island destination in the world seven times.
