Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko announced the creation of the Commonwealth Football League, RT reports.
“The Commonwealth Football League will start in March 2024, in which ten clubs from new regions will take part. The qualifying games have started. “The championship starts in March 2024,” Chernyshenko said.
On October 12, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) temporarily suspended the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) over the inclusion of representatives of new regions of Russia. The ROC included representatives of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
The International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) decided in spring 2022 to exclude the Russian national team and all Russian clubs from participating in all competitions controlled by these organizations. Since then, the Russians have only played friendly matches.
