Media: Biathlete Simon was released from custody after interrogation

French biathlete Julia Simone, a silver medalist at the 2022 Olympics, has been released from prison after being questioned in a fraud case. This is reported by the newspaper L’Equipe.

Earlier on Tuesday, the newspaper Dauphin Lib r reported that Simone had been arrested to testify in the case. According to the source, she is suspected of fraud, theft and abuse of power.

On July 5, radio station RMC Sport reported that Simone was suspected of using bank cards that did not belong to her to make purchases in online stores. As stated in the material, the incident occurred last summer at the international Blink festival in Norway. Two complaints have been filed against Simone, one of which was written by the Frenchwoman’s national team partner, 2022 Olympic champion Justine Brezat-Boucher. The second complaint came from an unnamed member of the French national team. The damage to the victims is estimated at more than 1,000 euros. Simone denied the allegations.

Simone is 27 years old, she is a 2022 Olympic silver medalist in the mixed relay and has won two gold and two bronze medals at world championships. In the 2022/23 season, the Frenchwoman won the overall World Cup in biathlon.
