Golikova announced a decrease in infant mortality in Russia

The activities of the national project “Health” in terms of children’s health care allowed us to achieve important results. The infant mortality rate in Russia for eight months of 2023 was 4.1 ppm. This was reported by the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Tatiana Golikova during the “right hour” at the plenary meeting of the State Duma on October 18.

She recalled that since 2023, the country began to conduct expanded neonatal screening of newborns, which makes it possible to identify more than 40 congenital diseases at the very beginning of their development and begin treatment in a timely manner. For this purpose, corresponding centers have been created in 10 regions in 2022, one of them is intended for confirmatory diagnostics. Currently, more than 99 percent of newborns are screened.

“Infant mortality is decreasing at an accelerated pace: over the eight months of 2023, its figure was 4.1 ppm,” said Tatyana Golikova. — We are increasing the volume of annual preventive medical examinations. In 2022, almost 26 million children underwent them, this is 92 percent of the number of those subject to examinations. Over the nine months of 2023, 19.4 million children were examined.”

The Deputy Prime Minister recalled that since 2019, the regions have carried out work, thanks to which 99 percent of children’s clinics have transformed the internal spaces for a comfortable stay for children, equipped them with medical products, completed the construction and reconstruction of 14 children’s hospitals and buildings, and the commissioning of four more hospitals is expected or cases.
