Starfield set a record for the number of new Game Pass subscriptions on the day of release
Microsoft published financial report for the first quarter of the 2024 fiscal year, which lasted from July 1 to September 30, 2023. In it, the company said its revenue grew 13% year-over-year and its net profit rose 27%.
Xbox is not far behind, with revenue from Microsoft’s video game division up 9%. Played an important role in this Starfield — the new RPG from the authors of Skyrim has already been played by more than 11 million people, many of whom launched the Game Pass subscription project. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that on release day Starfield the company set a record for the number of new Game Pass subscribers in a day. However, he did not give the exact number.
This quarter we released Starfield, which received wide recognition from players and critics. To date, more than 11 million people have played the game. Almost half of the hours were played on PC, and on launch day we set a record for the most daily Game Pass subscriptions.
Microsoft also expects gaming revenue to increase by more than 40% in the next quarter thanks to its purchase of Activision Blizzard.
Starfield goes on sale September 6th on PC, Xbox Series and Game Pass. The project received positive reviews from critics, but the game’s rating on Steam continues to fall and is now 71%.
