How to remove stains and fingerprints

Before cleaning your MacBook’s aluminum case, unplug it and turn off the device. After this, wipe it with a damp, lint-free cloth. If you want to get rid of stains left by your fingers, 70% isopropyl alcohol is suitable for this. Take a clean rag, dampen it with alcohol, and gently wipe the stains. Try to avoid cleaners and sprays that contain hydrogen peroxide – they can damage the finish on the case.

If some stains are too stubborn, you can try removing them with aluminum polish. There are a variety of types sold in stores: they come in liquid sprays, aerosols and creams. Apply the polish directly to the cloth and work through the body, thoroughly wiping the areas around the stains.

How to remove dirt from stickers

Decals and stickers are a good way to add a little variety to the look of your device, but they have the unpleasant property of leaving behind stains. Sometimes it happens that after removing the sticker, the aluminum underneath takes on a lighter color – but this is nothing to worry about. This means that the sticker simply protected the body area from dirt.

To remove any remaining adhesive, try to scrape off as much of the sticker as possible from the body. After this, remove the dried glue with a damp cloth; you may need to press it against the stain for a minute to allow the dirt to set. If this method does not remove all stains, further treat the cabinet with a 70% isopropyl alcohol solution. In addition, WD-40 is also suitable for removing glue: apply a little to the stain, wait a couple of minutes and wipe with a damp cloth.
